Visibility is one of Scotland’s oldest charities, dating back to 1859. We are the leading sight loss charity for the west of Scotland, providing services and support to over 3,000 blind and partially sighted people and their families every year.

We have created this archive to tell the story of sight loss in the west of Scotland over the last 150 years.

Our project partners

Our grateful thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund for providing the funding to create this archive, and to the Open Museum, Glasgow, for creating a Handling Box for groups to borrow and enjoy. Click here to find out more about the Handling Box

Our project contributors

Our grateful thanks to everyone who shared their personal stories and memories and brought our story to life. You will discover their recollections as you explore the archive.

We would also like to thank our project team for their hard work and commitment, and Ken Bruce for his support.
